Muddy Waters cover reveal, Author Edition

As is the way with books and publishers, from time to time, rights revert to the author. That's what's going on here with the forthcoming Author's Edition release of Muddy Waters, the first book in my Mossy Bog Romantic Suspense series. It will soon be available from all digital venues.

My first priority is to reissue ebooks of the five romances that I just had rights reversion on. After that, I will see if issuing print books are warranted.

Meanwhile, please enjoy this new cover, put together with the loving hands of my friend Polly Iyer. My goal is to use the same font and font placement for all three books in this series to create a series look.

Originally issued in 2010, this book has been edited from front to back to update the content.

Muddy Waters is currently up for pre-order at Amazon, to go live on Tuesday, Feb 5. Other vendors have already pushed the listing through their sales channels so there's no waiting at Nook, Kobo, or iBooks.

Here's the new blurb:

Real estate broker Roxie Whitaker is juggling skittish clients, an anxious bride, and her wayward brother. She’d very much like to sell some property, soothe her friend’s wedding jitters, and knock some sense into her party-boy brother’s head. Meanwhile, she needs a date for the wedding. In walks Sloan Harding, the town’s former bad boy and now an Atlanta security expert, and Roxie believes he’s the answer to her dreams.

Sparks fly as he escorts her to the wedding and asks her advice about his property. While he’s home, Sloan hunts for his missing inheritance. Sloan’s search uncovers family secrets and painful memories. To make matters worse, someone in the shadows is after his inheritance, someone who will do whatever it takes to walk away with the fortune.

Also, reviewers from before loved Roxie and Sloan's story. Here are a few snips from those earlier reviews:

“Great book, wonderful mystery and a red hot love story underlying it.  Roxie and Sloan really mix it up in and out of the bedroom and that is what makes for a great romance.  You can’t ask for more than that now can you?” –  Mary Gramlich, THE READING REVIEWER

“Toussaint pens a pleasant read for a nice fall afternoon. With its home realty and repair subplot, the author obviously knows her stuff.” – Cindy Himler, ROMANTIC TIMES

Book Review: Secret Sisters by Jayne Ann Krentz

When hotel exec Madeline Chase gets a distressed phone call from the caretaker of the only decommissioned hotel in her family’s chain of boutique B&Bs, she screws up her courage and returns to the scene of her worst nightmare. After the caretaker suffers a dire fate on Cooper Island, Madeline calls the cops and her security team for good measure.

Jack Rayner rushes to Madeline’s side and together they try to solve the caretaker’s murder. Except the more they look into it, the more the answers seem rooted in the past, and tied to a powerful West Coast family.

Soon Madeline has no choice but to call her secret sister, but doing so escalates the danger. With a madman in the neighborhood and a killer on the loose in this island community, the question is will finding the truth, and all of the truth, cost Madeline and Jack their lives?

I truly enjoyed the twists and turns in this novel. It reminded me of Jayne’s novels prior to the Arcane story threads in most of her more recent work. I adore paranormal, but normal can be Out of this World too. Whatever she writes, it’s always a hit with me.

Shipwrecks and Rough Waters

Rough Waters, my contemporary romantic suspense novel, came about because I wanted to write about people being knocked down by life. I wanted to see them triumph over adversity, but like any happy ending, they had to work for it.

Coupled with this not-just-surviving-but fighting-back mentality, I wanted to write about treasure. Where I live in coastal Georgia, and all up and down the Southeastern Seaboard, are tales and wrecks and dreams of the pirates that at one time infested our waters. Where there are pirates, there be gold!

Here's a shipwreck that gets uncovered periodically on nearby Cabretta

My hero, Rock, lost everything: his ailing mother, his business, his best friend, his physical wholeness, and his boat. Worse, when he was recovering from the accident, the treasure he'd recovered from the sea went missing. Trouble is the treasure belongs to his investor, who expects payment...yesterday.

And then there's pink-haired Jeanie. So brave after being abandoned with her two kids while her husband ran away with her cousin. So determined to pull herself up by her bootstraps. So sure she doesn't need anyone in her life. Until her business and home get ransacked and she's afraid for her children's sake. Everyone's telling her to run and hide, but she won't leave her fate in anyone else's hands. She can't.

Rough Waters was recently featured in the Southern Writers Valentine Catalog. I hope you'll click the link to take a peek!

Cool covers, Gr-r-r-r-eat Contest

Omigosh! What a week I'm having. So much good news I'm about to split open like ripe watermelon. Honest to goodness, I need to catch my breath.

Okay. Slightly better. Let's start off with the Giveaway!

The Booklover's Bench is an ultracool new site just for book giveaways. We're giving away a NOOK e-reader and five books. The books up for grabs have elements of mystery and romance, and they are page turners, for sure. Our contest runs from today, Feb 7 through Valentine's Day, Feb 14. (Gosh, I'm so excited I just misspelled Feb. Fixed it. Need another deep breath). Click on over to see what all the hoo-rah is all about! http://bookloversbench.com/

And as luck would have it, the covers to both of my summer release books arrived in the last two days. Amazing, right?

HOT WATER will release first, as an ebook, April-ish and in print in July most likely, though that's still being worked out. This is the second book in my Mossy Bog romantic suspense series, and it came about because fans kept asking me "Are you going to write Laurie Ann's story?" So I did, and this fab story has an awesome cover, don't you think?

Setting definitely plays a part in this book as police woman Laurie Ann and arson investigator Wyatt are on the trail of a serial arsonist and a murderer. You'll have the small town charm that I'm known for, the sigh of the mossy oaks, and the ever present pull of the tides - and a smokin' hot love story.

DIME IF I KNOW is my third in my ongoing Cleopatra Jones mystery series. Cleo's the single parent mom who uses her accounting skills to follow the money. In DIME, her golf pro boyfriend is implicated in the murder of a woman in a no-tell motel.

Cleo's already out-thought the cops on two other homicides, and she's most assuredly not going to let Rafe go to jail. But the strength of their relationship is tested as she realizes how little she really knows about him.

I don't have these covers up on my website or even here at Mudpies, so you're the first to see them. Except me of course, and I can't pick a favorite because they both scream "read me!"

What a fun spring and summer this is going to be.

Don't forget to click over and enter the contest at Booklovers - my funny Murder In The Buff is up for grabs over there. http://bookloversbench.com/

Have a wonderful day!

Maggie is on the Amazing Authors Tour

My moment in the sun as part of the #amazingeventauthors mini-blog tour!

When the water is muddy, you can't tell what's coming downstream, what's under your boat, or where the channel is. Muddy Waters are trouble with a capital T.

In my romantic suspense, Muddy Waters, both Roxie and Sloan are awash with troubles and can't see the future. Both know what they want, but attaining those goals seems insurmountable.

Here's the book blurb:

Roxie Whitaker is struggling to make her grandmother’s real estate business a success. When her coastal home is burglarized, her rosy worldview dims. Atlanta security expert Sloan Harding distracts her from her troubles, but is Mossy Bog’s former bad boy serious about her?

Never one to shy away from trouble, Sloan is determined to find his alleged missing inheritance. Sparks fly as he enters into a business arrangement with Roxie to oversee the restoration of his childhood home. With her help, Sloan resurrects old secrets while a dangerous predator stalks them.

With passion and danger muddying the waters, will love see the light of day?

Available in digital or print format:
Kindle   Wild Rose Press and Amazon     Barnes_and_Noble

Here's an excerpt from the book:

“The lost Harding fortune did have a point of origin," Sloan said. “There was no money banked when my grandfather died. My father insisted granddad hid it from him, and from there the story grew.
“No one else believed my father’s drunken ramblings. Granddad wasn’t a rich man, and he could have had unknown expenses that burnt through his savings. But two things keep me from dismissing this outright.
“First, my father was so sure he’d been scammed. He didn’t hold fast to many things, but he never wavered on this. Second, if there’s any chance at all that my grandfather hid any money, it’s mine to find.”
“That’s why you didn’t sell the house before?” Roxie’s blue green eyes regarded Sloan expectantly. “Because you needed to come home to find the truth? To uphold your granddad’s good name?”
There she went again, putting words in his mouth. He wasn’t a saint. He was a Harding. “I don’t need the money. My company is doing fine. I have questions about the past, that’s all.”
“Questions? What kind of questions?”
Why wouldn’t she let the subject drop? Did she expect him to admit his father had been crazy? Or that he harbored serious doubts about his granddad’s sanity? What sane man hid his estate from his heir?
And if said heir searched for the missing money, was he crazy too?
No way was he admitting all that.
